many architects designed one ore many themself, chairs. the simple thing that lifts your butt from the floor. there are billions of them out their and I’ve once heard that if you look at ones chairs at home you can see into their soul. well Iwouldn’t go that far but still it makes a huge difference if you siton a good or a bad one.

the viennese thonet chairs are famous and it’s not a big secret that many viennese people love chairs, even collect them.

sitzfläche (siting surface) is a viennese shop / atelier who sell, renovate and collect all in the same time. they have an nice collection of design from 1900-1980. I think it’s worth a visit if you live in Vienna and if not you can still visit their homepage and love these chairs!

like many others I am always happy to find helpful web 2.0 applications that really make life easier! menu2 is a map based database that offers restaurants to publish their lunch menu and the working class to have a real choice for lunch. great idea!

3XN exhibition [event]

after the gloriouse exhibition of Big last year the danish architecture center (dac) just opened a new exhibition of 3XN. The show is called Mind your behaviour and since it’s open until mid of may there is enough time to travel to Copenhagen and suck up some decent architecture.

The Centre Pompidou is opening a new branch museum in Metz with an exhibition called “Masterpieces”. the architecture by Shigeru Ban is a quite remarkable construction of hexagonal glue laminated timberand with white fibreglass membrane and a coating of teflon. everthing can be whatched on a webcam which seems to be quite popular these days! the museum will be opened on the 10th of Mai and I just can’t wait to visit!

What exactly is a masterpiece today? Is this still a relevant concept? Who decides what is a masterpiece and what isn’t? Once a masterpiece, always a masterpiece?

The opening exhibition Masterpieces?offers a display of over 800 remarkable works filling the more than 5000 sq m. of gallery space at the Centre Pompidou-Metz. The exhibition questions the idea of the masterpiece, its history and its modern interpretation. As the biggest loan of works ever made by the Centre Pompidou, Masterpieces?illustrates the riches of the collection held by the Musée National d’Art Moderne. The Centre Pompidou-Metz invites the public to discover, or rediscover, major works such as Calder’s Josephine Baker IV, Klein’s Grande Anthropophagie Bleueor Picasso’s Woman with Red Head.

Contemporary art is highlighted by specially commissioned works, while prestigious French and international establishments are hailing the opening of the Centre Pompidou-Metz by lending key works from their collections.

Masterpieces?constitutes an unprecedented selection in which every field of artistic creation is represented: painting, sculpture, installation, graphic art, photography, video, sound art, film, architecture, design, etc. Visitors progress through the exhibition’s four “chapters” each inside one of the four exhibition spaces: the Grande Nef (Great Nave), Galleries 1, 2 and 3.

The exhibition addresses an informed audience and members of the general public alike in a display that presents remarkable works in a new light, allowing visitors to encounter or reencounter major works of art.

The Centre Pompidou-Metz in brief

The Centre Pompidou-Metz is the first offshoot of a major French cultural institution – the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and was established in collaboration with regional authorities.

As a sister institution to the Centre Pompidou, the Centre Pompidou-Metz is entirely independent in its scientific and cultural choices. Its programming is in harmony with the innovative, cross-disciplinary and public outreach approach of the Centre Pompidou and is based on its expertise, networks and reputation.

this days post is refering to an event in Graz, Austria. The exhibition at the Kunsthaus Graz (by Peter Cook and Colin Fournier) of the Italian artist living and working in Paris Tatiana Trouvé (info fr, info arte) is just starting up and will get a lot of attention.
